With your help we are impacting the lives of seniors and ensuring that they receive the best care in warm and caring environments in a village that is so supportive and dedicated to their needs. Your support provides many programs and services to keep the community at Finlandia village healthy, active and strong.

The generosity and kindness of others helps to support the mission and activities of the Finlandia SISU Foundation. Donations, memorials and tributes further our shared mission to enhance the lives of aging adults. The Foundation is grateful for these donations. Each gift advances the opportunities toward a world where all seniors age with greater dignity, hope and quality of life.

The Canadian population is aging. According to Statistics Canada, seniors make up the fastest-growing age group, and this trend is expected to continue for the next several decades. In 2011, an estimated 5.0 million Canadians were 65 years of age or older, a number that is expected to double in the next 25 years to reach 10.4 million seniors by 2036. By 2051, about one in four Canadians is expected to be 65 or over.

These demographic changes create an urgent need for communities to embrace the unique needs of the older generation and implement innovative solutions. Finlandia Village is an innovative solution – offering a safe, affordable ‘continnum of care’ for the multicultural seniors’ community.

But there is still much work to be done. By giving to the Finlandia SISU Foundation, you help to implement programs that bring meaningful change to the lives of seniors. Your gift will help provide services for seniors in genuine need, invest in wellness and prevention initiatives, and nutrition and exercise programs.

The History of Quality and Care

When the Sudbury Finnish Rest Home Society was formed in 1982, its purpose was to provide quality aging in place for the Finnish community. Since then, the Society has created an impressive, multi-stage continuum of care legacy for the multicultural seniors’ community, known as Finlandia Village.

Today, Finlandia Village is dedicated to serving mature adults by providing affordable, high quality, comfortable, and secure living accommodations, along with opportunities for social, spiritual, cultural and recreational interaction within an independent, caring community.

All of this is made possible by the generosity of donors, like you, and other funding sources, such as grants from the Northeast LHIN, FedNor and the Ontario Provincial Government.

Over the years, the Society’s purpose has broadened to encompass all forms of quality of life enhancements for seniors in Greater Sudbury. Since the last building campaign in 2012, the Society continues to raise funds to invest in state of the art medical equipment, wheelchairs, educational opportunities and resident therapy services, among other projects.

In 2013, the Finlandia SISU Charitable Foundation was created to help provide the needed resources to enrich the quality of life and independence to all older adults in Greater Sudbury.
